Introduction

Welcome to Meditation Instructions – a handy, reliable step by step guide that anyone can use to gain a good meditation practice. Use our sections (at the bottom of each page) like a menu to pick and choose the meditations you want to try. If in doubt, start at the begining and work your way down.

Our emphasis is on overcoming all of the common obstacless you might encounter. Wherever possible we also try to link to the best books on the subject, as good book recommendations are great if you do not have your own teacher.

There are many types of meditation, of course. Coming soon are guides on healing meditations, walking meditations, deity visualizations, mantras, sleep meditations, developing positive attributes meditations, as well as answers to some of the more frequently asked questions.

Remember, the use of meditation is not limited to any one philosophy or religion. Some of the benefits of meditation that everyone can use include relaxation, healing, removing stress, peak achievement, overcoming mental difficulties and deep happiness. At its most profound, meditation allows a person to see reality as it really is, and can lead to the ultimate goal of enlightenment (complete wisdom, and the end of all suffering). However, meditation is available to us all, however we wish to use it. Many people say that the practice of meditation is the greatest skill that a person can learn in their lifetime.
